Psychological Services
Individual Therapy
Brief, short-term or long-term therapy available based upon a range of theories and interventions. After the first few sessions I will provide recommendations and describe what will be the most efficacious form(s) of treatment.
Group Therapy
Currently I am offering one group for people with clinical depression and/or bipolar disorder. The group meets three Thursdays/month from 6:00 – 7:30pm at my office in Boulder (4865 Riverbend Road – Suite 101). The focus is placed on education, support and interpersonal growth.
Family Therapy
Available as it relates to therapy I am doing with an individual. For example, if I am working with a teenage athlete and there is conflict with his/her parents, I will have sessions with the parents if therapeutically indicated. Or if I am working with a spouse with an addiction to alcohol, I may see the other spouse and/or family if this will help the individual with his/her recovery.
Couples Therapy
Usually based upon the issues and severity of the problems. I will inform you after the evaluation phase of treatment if I can help you with the growth and development of your relationship.
Evaluation/Consultation
Often times I will see a person for one to three sessions to help determine the diagnosis, for example. Or I will see a person referred from a neurologist who wants to know if the person can cope with surgery. Another example includes a school system that sends a student for the evaluation of the severity of his/her drug or alcohol use and to provide treatment recommendations.
Supervision
For therapists in training seeking hours for licensure. I will also work with therapists who are licensed that want to develop specialized skills through the use of supervision. For example, a therapist may want supervision in order to learn how to treat people suffering with chronic pain or athletes dealing with physical injury.
Psychological Testing
A range of objective tests are used as an adjunct to a clinical interview to provide more comprehensive information about the presenting problem(s). For example, I use the Battery for Health Improvement – 2 when working with people with physical illnesses and chronic pain. This test provides information that I would not otherwise obtain based upon talking with the person. When working with athletes, there are several tests and surveys I use to help them understand issues like how to cope with pre-competitive anxiety or how to get mentally prepared for competition.
Public Speaking
On general or specialized topics that may include some but not limited to the following: managing stress, coping with alcohol and drug addiction, parent education training, weight management and normalization, improving communication on the job, depression and bipolar disorder, the psychological benefits of exercise and physical activity, sport psychology related lectures, coping with a chronic illness or medical condition, how to benefit from appointments with a medical practitioner or psychiatrist, using psychiatric medication effectively. Please feel free to make contact to discuss the various options.
Educational/Business/Sport Consultation
These various arenas oftentimes need independent consultants who can conduct an evaluation of the program. Some examples of the types of services that can be offered include: improving motivation for teachers and delivering services to assist with drug/alcohol use among students (educational), improving communication between managers and their employees (business) and improving the performance of a coaching staff (sport). I can also provide evaluation of other programs such as mental health agencies, residential alcohol/drug treatment programs, weight loss clinics and health clubs.
Personal Coaching
For those interested in an approach based on personal development and performance enhancement. Coaching involves the use of values clarification and the identification of self-limiting beliefs. Goal setting and motivational techniques are also used as the primary interventions in order to facilitate achievement of outcomes that will lead to improving meaning and satisfaction in all areas of life.
Manuscript Editing
For those working on papers for graduate or undergraduate psychology classes, a master’s thesis or doctoral dissertation I provide editorial services. I will focus on the basics – grammar, punctuation and syntax. However, I place emphasis on content, organization and the use of research to substantiate the points being made.
